Echoes of the Dead: Ghost Stories
Nin’s grandmother Reshka doesn’t bake cookies or knit socks. She raises the ghosts of the dead and binds them to do her bidding. Nin has to learn to do the same when she goes to live with Reshka – but will she be able to harden her heart against her ghosts, and rule them as she has been taught? Can she stand to hear the echoes of the dead? Tonight we present a theatrical adaptation of C.S.E. Cooney’s novella “Braiding the Ghosts” in a storytelling spectacle that will haunt you long after you leave the theatre.
The Performers
Ruthanne Edward is a great lover of ghost stories and a review of her repertoire reveals a disturbingly large number of stories with corpses in them. Some of which don't stay dead! She first realized she was a storyteller while leading ghost tours in downtown Ottawa. From there, Ruthanne has branched out to telling stories (scary or not) to children and adults in Ottawa and the Valley, and many other places. She has appeared at the Ottawa, St. John's and St. Marys Storytelling Festivals, the Ottawa Fringe Festival, at the National Arts Centre and many museums, schools and libraries. Ruthanne is also the founder and slam master of Once Upon A Slam, Ottawa's monthly story slam series.
C.S.E. Cooney studied writing and acting at Columbia College Chicago. Since graduating in 2006, she has participated in new play festivals and solo shows around the city and was a reviewer for Centerstage Chicago. Her short plays have been produced in Chicago, Saint Louis, Taipei and New York. In 2011, her novellas Jack o' the Hills and The Big Bah-Ha came out with Papaveria Press and Drollerie Press respectively, and her poetry collection "How to Flirt in Faerieland and Other Wild Rhymes" is due out with Papaveria in 2012.
